Underwater Tentacles

2024, Multimedia installation(fabric print canvas, video projection), sound, color, loop
As I observed the tentacles of the marine organisms, and the algae, a plant belonging to the Phyllospadix genus, through a dissecting microscope, scenes that resonated with me deeply were captured and framed. Contemplating the symbiotic relationship between them, I found myself reflecting on our society and the individual identity embedded within it. The floating canvases, the placement either on the floor or in distorted arrangements, signify disintegration and, furthermore, the process of merging. This journey of pondering societal and personal themes is encapsulated in the close-up shot printing, featuring Phyllospadix plants and sea anemone.

Each time I create a piece, it is sparked by immediate inspiration and a collection of random objects. In performance pieces, emotions are typically channeled into specific or naturally occurring objects within the designated space.

The video component is tailored to be compatible with older television sets, aiming to evoke complex emotions such as the contrast between performance and reality, a sense of both heterogeneity and homogeneity among viewers. The overarching motif of the video is "imitation." Whether it's mimicking an action or replicating an object, it portrays objects as if they were imitating sketches on paper. This imagery is a product of imagination rather than direct replication. The accompanying soundscape elicits a feeling of something being dismantled amidst the repetitive motions of curling up and standing back up. Each sound is a blend of the cracking of knuckles and the crunch of a plastic bottle being crushed underfoot. These independent sounds and visuals capture the dual experience of the audience empathizing with the artwork while recognizing the artist's emotional journey depicted through the process and actions.
